I'm Lucy - owner at Branching Out - a freelance events florist! Based just outside Richmond, North Yorkshire in lower Swaledale.

My business is really about unique designs, attention to detail and working closely with a client to achieve a great outcome.

I'm inquisitive and love to see what's new and exciting in the world of flowers and design and have a great passion for re inventing things from odds and ends commonly called up-cycling it's all about re using and re-purposing!.

flower fairy
I have been a professional florist for over 30 years having been around flowers since I was little; following my mothers passion for floral design and my grandfathers business in wholesale flowers and plants. I trained in floristry at the Isle of Ely College, Wisbech where I achieved an award for best Student florist. I took my National Diploma of the Society Of Florisrtry a little later followed by my Floral Designer Certificate in San Diego, USA.

I have worked in the commercial sector for many years, running a busy florist shop and working with clients from all walks of life. I have gained success in national floristry competitions and consultancy work for Smithers Oasis, Harrogate Flower Show and Teleflorist. I specialise in small quirky weddings and events covering the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding area.

I took training in teaching and taught City and Guilds floristry for many years and now run a variety of floral design workshops to small groups and flower clubs.

I achieved my qualification to be an area demonstrator for NAFAS in 2014 - and am looking forward to many years of sharing my ideas and working with the association.

Events and Show Work
I attend a range of events and markets - usually vintage based where I feature "have a go sessions" and sell my handmade things. I have worked at the fabulous Harrogate Flower show for many years - either competing, demonstrating or creating displays in the floral art marquee which have included a foliage hat and a giant flag made from fruit and vegetables!!

Ever "Branching Out" into new things I have found another passion in working with paper - be it old books, maps, wallpaper or kyogi paper I love to create with it. I joined my local art club and have discovered some new skills in felting which I often add into my work.

This comes from working with colour, form, texture and observing the environment of the woodland, coast and moors oh yes and the addictive Pinterest.

Ambition and Dreams
